5 unique & powerful tips on how to RELAX!

If you’re like many in today’s day & age there is no shortage of obligations and responsibilities to take care of!  Meetings.  Deadlines.  A stream of seemingly never-ending tasks.  You know it’s important to relax and sometimes that awareness makes it even worse as you make yourself wrong for not relaxing more!! Evening comes and if you’re lucky you’ll get a few minutes to put your feet up.  Netflix it is!

And of course, there’s nothing wrong with Netflix!  Truthfully, I love my season episodes of Black Mirror & OA!  What’s missing is time to connect with ourselves as we relax.  To connect to the profound beauty of this incredible experience we’re all having – called being HUMAN!

Here are 5 unique & powerful tips on how to RELAX, rejuvenate & restore your energy each day!

1.)  SCHEDULE EACH DAY : It can seem counter-intuitive to put structure and relax in the same sentence.  And yet they complement each other perfectly.  Often times it’s the ‘lack of plan or structure’ that leaves us feeling stressed and anxious.  Allowing yourself a few minutes at the end of each day to schedule the day ahead provides MENTAL SPACE. It frees you up so that you don’t need to worry about what you need to do the next day.  You already know & you’ve GOT this!

2.)  TRY ON BEING RELAXED :   So you’ve got a schedule and yet who you’re BEING within each of the tasks you have scheduled is the same stressed and anxious person you were the day before.  There’s no freedom or possibility in that!  And  YOU have the power to CHOOSE who you’re being in each moment.

Example:  Let’s say you have a meeting scheduled from 12-1 that you’re feeling tense about, and you’d much rather be relaxed and grounded.  What actions would a relaxed and grounded person take?  They might take some deep breaths, soften their jaw & shoulders, listen & speak clearly.  Try it on.  Play with it.  Have FUN with it.  And watch yourself, with each action taken, become more and more relaxed!

3.) GET UP EARLY TO DO NOTHING: It doesn’t have to be much earlier than you’d regularly get up.  15-20 minutes is all you need.  Allow yourself a few minutes to get up, shuffle to the bathroom in your slippers, drink some water, light a candle and place a comfy cushion on the floor.  Set a timer for 10-15 minutes of stillness to breathe and BE WITH YOURSELF. This is the first step to self-love and living your most relaxed life! 4.)  COMMIT TO TAKING MORE BREAKS: If you’re a “professional do-er” then it’s likely challenging for you to stop while in the midst of something.  I get it!!  At LEAST every 2 hours take a 15 minute break and do something completely different.  It could be a short walk, a few moments with a pet or loved one, or taking a cat nap.  Return to your task with a refreshed & relaxed perspective!  Commit this to your schedule from Tip #1!  How? 5.)  FIND AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER:  This is someone that you trust.  Someone you create a WEEKLY 15 minute accountability session with.  Each week you create a list which includes more of what you WANT in your life!

If you’re reading this article and relaxation is important to you, you could start with the above 4 tips as your first list!  Then after a week you & your accountability partner have a check in!  Sometimes things will go “well” and sometimes they won’t – and it’s all perfect!  The things you don’t do either don’t belong on your list OR you need to find another way to make it work & fit into your life!  This is the fun!  This is how you playfully create your life!  And I don’t know anything more relaxing…than that!
